Arkansas RV Insurance

From the Ozarks to the Timberlands, Arkansas is a camper's dream. But in order to explore all the beauty that The Natural State has to offer from the comfort of an RV, you’ll likely need to consider getting RV insurance. In Arkansas, RV insurance is required by law for many recreational vehicles. But even if your RV is exempt from the state's minimum coverage requirement, insurance can help protect your investment and your other assets in case of an accident or other loss.

What are Arkansas's RV insurance requirements?

Arkansas state law makes a distinction between motorhomes – which have a motor and can move under their power – and other types of RVs, like travel trailers, pop-ups, and fifth wheels. Motorhomes are considered automobiles for state minimum insurance laws, so if you have a motorhome (whether Class A, B, or C), you'll need to meet or exceed the state's minimum coverage limits:

  • $25,000 in bodily injury per person
  • $50,000 in total bodily injury per accident
  • $25,000 in property damage per accident

When you buy a policy to meet the required liability coverage, all insurers are required to offer you uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage (UM/UIM) and personal injury protection. UM/UIM pays for damages you suffer if another driver is at fault but doesn't have enough insurance to cover the damages they caused. PIP pays for your medical bills along with other injury benefits like lost wages, regardless of who was at fault. You aren't required to buy this coverage, but it will be included in the policy unless you specifically reject it in writing.

If you have a trailer-type RV that can't move under its own power, you aren't required to buy an insurance policy; the liability coverage of the towing vehicle will provide coverage for the trailer in the event it causes any damage. However, accidents involving RV trailers can quickly become expensive and an RV policy can offer physical damage protection for your investment and additional coverages specifically designed for the RV lifestyle.

RV insurance from Progressive starts at just $125/year for a liability policy*. Find out the price to protect your RV with a fast, easy online RV insurance quote.

Bodily injury and property damage liability coverage

Liability coverage pays for damage you cause others if you're at fault for an accident. The bodily injury limit is the amount your policy can pay for medical expenses, and the property damage limit is for damage to things like buildings and vehicles. It can even cover legal fees related to the incident.

Arkansas only mandates minimum coverages, but you can increase your coverage limits in order to better protect your assets.

Comprehensive and collision coverage

If you finance your motorhome or travel trailer, comprehensive and collision coverages are generally required by your lender.

Comprehensive coverage may cover you from damage resulting from forces outside your control including forces of nature like natural disasters, severe weather, wildlife, fires, and malicious behaviors like theft and vandalism.

Collision coverage may pay for damages resulting from collisions, regardless of who is at fault. This includes typical multi-vehicle and multi-driver collisions, and also covers single-vehicle collisions with objects (for example, if you hit a road sign or a parked car) and even covers rollovers.

What if I live in my RV full-time?

If you live in your RV full-time (more than six months a year), a full-time RV insurance policy offers important protections that a recreational policy doesn't. Full-time policies can provide Arkansas RV insurance that combines the coverages found in a normal RV policy with protections similar to those found in a homeowners insurance policy. Key benefits include:

  • Personal liability: Personal liability coverage may cover damage or injuries from accidents you cause while the RV is parked.
  • Medical payments: Medical payments coverage may cover medical bills if guests get hurt in or around your RV.
  • Loss assessment: This coverage may pay for costs levied by your RV association, like the cost to repair damage to common areas after a natural disaster.
