Motorcycle liability coverage is required in nearly every state to ride legally. If you're liable in an accident, liability coverage can pay for property damage, injuries you cause to others, and legal expenses.

Example: You lose control of your motorcycle, colliding with a parked car. Liability coverage can pay for repairs to the damaged vehicle up to your policy's liability limits.

Comprehensive & collision

Motorcycle comprehensive coverage protects your bike against incidents out of your control, including theft, vandalism, fire, and weather-related issues. Motorcycle collision coverage covers damage to your bike if you collide with an object or vehicle. Both can be crucial in safeguarding your bike against physical damage.

Example: While in storage for the winter, your bike is stolen from your storage unit. Comprehensive may pay to replace your bike, minus your deductible.

Example: Your bike is damaged after a minor collision with a guardrail. Collision can cover the repair cost, minus your deductible.

Roadside assistance and trip interruption

If you're riding anywhere in the U.S. or Canada and your bike is disabled, roadside coverage will pay for a tow to the nearest repair shop. Trip interruption can pay for food, lodging, or transportation, up to $500, if you're more than 100 miles away from home.

Example: You're on a ride out of state when your motorcycle breaks down. Roadside coverage can tow you to a nearby repair shop, and trip interruption coverage can pay for a hotel stay while you wait for your bike to be repaired.

Total loss coverage for a new motorcycle

If you total your new motorcycle, Progressive can pay the full manufacturer's suggested retail price for a brand-new bike, minus the deductible on your policy. Your motorcycle must be no more than one model year old on a new policy or two model years old during the renewal of a policy with total loss coverage.

Example: You recently paid $25,000 for a new bike, but now it's worth $18,000. If it's totaled in a covered loss, and the latest model costs over $25,000, we'll give you that amount. Your policy will cover the actual cash value of your bike if your motorcycle isn't eligible for total loss coverage at renewal.

- Know your bike's year, make, and model: If you don't have your VIN handy, you can still get an accurate motorcycle insurance quote if you know basic information about your bike.
- Add all riders: If family members regularly ride your bike, add them to your quote so you're adequately covered
- Locate your VIN: You can get a free motorcycle insurance quote without your vehicle identification number (VIN), but you'll need it to purchase your policy
If your passenger sustains an injury in a bike accident, guest passenger liability coverage can pay for their injuries up to your policy's limits. Depending on your state, guest passenger liability coverage is either part of your bodily injury liability coverage or a separate coverage. Remember that if the other motorist is at fault, their insurance may pay for your passenger's injuries.
